Dear all,

I am planning to work on a large deformation problem in dolfinx 0.10.0 where the mesh will get distorted over time. I would like to detect when cell quality drops below a threshold, remesh the deformed domain, and interpolate all state variables onto the new mesh before continuing the simulation.

Is anyone aware of a minimal working example, a GitHub repository, or a discourse thread that demonstrates this kind of workflow in DOLFINx?

Any leads would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time and considerations.

I have no experience with remeshing and interpolating, but computing cell quality can be done fairly easily by interfacing with PyVista, I have some code to do this [here](https://github.com/ottarph/pvmeshquality/tree/main). I think remeshing from changing boundaries is quite complicated, I could not find anything in the discourse search other than [this old question](https://fenicsproject.discourse.group/t/re-meshing-in-fluid-structure-interaction/1190). I wish you the best of luck.

This is doable. I’ll try to sketch something tomorrow.

@ottarhellan started working on this at:

I’ll hopefully make a simpler version of this soon, that doesn’t involve an internal interface.
