Hello. I am trying to install fenicsx on my macbook via spack. It is intel based with Macos 11.6.5. I would suggest install gcc and gfortran with brew, as spack requires these packages to install anything. ---

Further to @dokken’s comments, you can also install gcc using spack and then `spack compiler find` to update its indices. You may also benefit from using spack to install cmake after this and prior to `py-fenics-dolfinx`. ---

Thank you for the replies. @dokken I am trying to avoid to use Homebrew except for casks. This is because the uninstallation process only removes the listed packages, not with the dependencies. Hence I need to scan the lists one by one every time I uninstall something and uninstall what can be uninstalled. This is also why I prefer to use git instead of brewing spack. Currently I use mambaforge environment if I need to build something, including fenics 2019. @nate I have finished installing gcc using spack and following your suggestion, currently is installing cmake. [Edit 1] Also, is it just me, or all the installation process on spack is to build from source? [Edit 2] Should I install the build requirement in “base” environment or in fenicsx-env? I tried to install gcc on fenicsx-env. It install in ~/spack/opt/spack instead of inside the /var/spack/environment. So it did not make a difference. CMIIW. [Edit 3] Update: I am using mixed compiler setting now. I put gcc gfortran to replace f77 and fc on apple-clang@13.0.0. Currently compiling. Kind regards, Iwan ---
