Project based on element's own degree of freedom(not L^{2})

I have a question for projection. For example if we consider RT/BDM elements, these elements have their own degree of freedom, so my question is that is there a simple way to project for example u \in H^{1} into these RT/BDM space using the degree of freedom of RT/BDM, instead of the usual L^{2} projection?
