Trial/test function of FEniCSx

Dear all,
I have simple but fundamental question on function space in FEniCSx.
I read some FEniCSx tutorial and found:

My question is:
1) Does it mean that FEnicSX is adopting Bubnov–Galerkin method?
2) Then, is the test function is just a shape function?

  1. yes. Most finite element software use the Bubnov-Galerkin method, including FEniCS. See for instance historical notes in chapter 2.8 of: https://fenicsproject.org/pub/book/book/fenics-book-2011-06-14.pdf

  2. the test function in ufl is the collection of shape functions over a given function space.
